Concussion Officer

If in doubt, Sit them out!

The Concussion Officer plays a critical role in ensuring the safety and wellbeing of all participants by overseeing concussion awareness, prevention, and management within the club. This role supports a strong culture of player safety by promoting best-practice concussion protocols in line with Ice Hockey NSW policies and national guidelines.

The Concussion Officer is responsible for ensuring that suspected concussions are recognised, reported, and managed appropriately, including the immediate removal of players from play where required. They act as a key point of contact for players, parents, coaches, and officials, providing guidance on return-to-play processes and supporting compliance with medical advice.

In addition, the Concussion Officer works proactively to educate the club community on the risks, signs, and symptoms of concussion, and ensures that all relevant resources and procedures are accessible and understood. By supporting consistent and informed decision-making, the Concussion Officer helps safeguard the long-term health of all participants.
