The 9U Atoms league is played by girls and boys 4-9 years old with a focus on skill development with games played in a 3-on-3 cross-ice format with 3 x 16-minute matches in a round robin set-up. Line changes occur every 90 seconds on the whistle to ensure equal ice time for all players. Teams are evenly balanced based on players’ skill levels rather than being formed by club. Each team consists of 6-10 players and a goalie. The 9U Atoms Coordinator and club coaches guide the development of all players and foster an inclusive environment. While teams are not formed by club, players must register through their own clubs. Minor penalties result in a penalty shot, slap shots are prohibited, and there are no off-sides, though other penalties are enforced.
